Description

As a Research 1 Institution, faculty at the University of Maine must demonstrate a strong commitment to and engagement in research, teaching (including advising), and service. At the Assistant level, the successful candidate will demonstrate the capacity to engage in these activities, while at the Associate level, the successful candidate will provide a record of past success engaging in these activities as well as their capacity for ongoing growth and success at the University of Maine.

  • Establish a rigorous and productive line of research relevant to the field of educational research and schools/school systems.
  • Seek external grants and funding.
  • Establish constructive working relationships with practitioners, schools, professional development organizations, and policy-makers.
  • Teach two courses per semester virtually in our M.Ed. and Ed.D. programs, using both synchronous and asynchronous course modalities.
  • Advise graduate students with a strong commitment to their success.
  • Chair and serve on dissertation committees.
  • Contribute to programmatic and instructional decision-making within the Educational Leadership program areas, School, and College.
  • Establish and maintain professional relationships that reflect collegiality and respect.
  • Participate in community at all levels of the institution, embracing our shared values of justice, equity, and democratic engagement.

  • Attained a Doctoral degree in Educational Leadership or a related field prior to the start of the 2024-25 academic year. Applicants who have not yet completed their doctoral degree should provide a timeline for completion.
  • Served in a pK-12 leadership role, preference for district level leadership experience.
  • Engaged with the research process outside the scope of their dissertation project.
  • Possess external funding goals or experience obtaining external funding.
  • Possess a strong working knowledge of leadership development and practice.
  • Collaborate and work effectively with colleagues.
  • Possess knowledge and skills in group facilitation or individual development of adult leaders and learners.
  • Possess skills in developing and teaching online courses.
  • Possess skills and knowledge of educational technology, in particular in video conferencing platforms.
  • Demonstrate a sensitivity to issues of equity, diversity, and inclusion that educators, students, and families face in rural school settings.

  • Attained a Doctoral degree in Educational Leadership or a related field.
  • Served in a pK-12 leadership role, preference for district level leadership experience.
  • Successfully established a research agenda with a clear area of specialization with robust and sustained productivity as evidenced through publishing in recognized journals and other publication outlets.
  • Successfully obtained external funding for their scholarship.
  • Ongoing engagement in at least one educational leadership association, including but not limited to a record of presenting original research.
  • Possess a strong working knowledge of leadership development and practice;
  • Collaborate and work effectively with colleagues.
  • Demonstrate a record of success engaging in group facilitation or individual development of adult leaders and learners.
  • Demonstrate a record of success engaging skills developing and teaching online courses.
